you have: 3(2x-4)+4x-2

simplify-->>>

3(2x-4)+4x-2

Get rid of the parentheses....(distribute the 3)

3*2x=6x

and

3*-4=-12

6x-12+4x-2

Now add your apples and oranges--->>>

10x-14
