What is a point-of-view shot, and when is it an appropriate choice of angle in a film?

Hey um the point of view shot is when the shot is taken in the persons view of things and i just did this so um the appropriate use of it would be to use it like on walks or when someone sees something they like or even when someone is arguing lol long time no talk <3
